10 Oct When The Music Plays
We live in a time and age where it’s easy to go with the flow. I personally believe that Christians are being tested in an unprecedented way in this generation. God wants us to go against the current of the world. As an example, you know very well that today there are many voices and opinions hovering around how you should build your marriage, raise your child or how you should seek God. Not all of these voices are from the word of God. These are the times that will require you to step up and not be swayed by the tide. I think of a story found in the book of Daniel 3: 1 – 30.
We read about the three Hebrew boys who were instructed to bow down to the image of King Nebuchadnezzar. When the music played everyone had to bow down immediately. Imagine being at the assembly and hearing the orchestra play and seeing every woman, man and child bow down to the image of the King. Picture it! A wave of people going down on their knees without hesitation. And here is Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refusing to be influenced by the situation. They chose to go against the current.
I can imagine the immense sense of pressure, the itch they may have had to just bend the knee. But the truth of God was burning in their hearts, their parents told them of this God who created the heavens and the earth, the God who parted the Red Sea, the God who made manna rain from heaven, the God who subdued Israel’s enemies with His powerful hand. The list was endless; it was evident that their God had a glorious reputation. And they were not about to trade that for a man-made image. They were even courageous to tell the king that they would never bow down to his image and that God would save them, and well if He didn’t save them that was OK still.
They took their stance against one of the most powerful Kings in history. The confidence they exuded was on another level because refusing the king meant being thrown into the fiery furnace, it meant death! May we have that confidence that makes us stand when we feel the urge to succumb. May the Holy Spirit hold us high as He reminds us of God’s word concerning any situation that will shake our ground. This story really boggles my mind; the boys did not need to huddle up discuss this situation as a team. It was obvious to all three of them. This was a non-negotiable, “we do not bow to other gods only to the one true God who is in heaven”.
What tune is playing in your current season? Is it fear, compromise, doubt, condemnation, discontentment or unforgiveness? I want to encourage you to use the word of God to filter the music. Let God’s word filter any lies of the enemy or strongholds in your mind. Refuse to bow down to the ways of this world, “So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you” – James 4:7. The power to resist is found in our submission to God. The boys were submitted to God that is why they did not flinch. Our whole lives must be submitted to God. Is your life submitted to God? Is your life really surrendered without reservation? Trust in the word of the Lord, trust in God’s promises and wait patiently on Him.
Refuse anything that is going to move you away from God or anything that will cause you to unravel the gifts that God has given you. Watch over you mind and heart. “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life” – Proverbs 4:23
Build your life on Christ and His truths found in the Word. This is where your confidence will come from. When you are rooted in submission and drenched with the truth of God’s word, it does not matter if the orchestra is playing. You will not be moved. You will be anchored and there will be no place for fear.
I love God and His word. I have a great passion to help women mature in their relationship with Christ…it’s possible because God’s grace has removed the boundaries. We have unlimited access to our Father.
