A poem about the grace of communion:
Come, sit at the table, my friend
I have something to tell you
I know you’re weary and need rest
I know all that you’ve been through.
On the table is some special bread
And some very special wine
It’s not the type you can buy
Though it’s not that hard to find
Your soul’s been busy, here and there
With all the cares of life
You’ve forgotten that I offer you
Grace outside of strife
This bread will fill you up
And bring light to your eyes
You don’t have to bake or buy
Or wait for it to rise
It’s not that it’s for free – oh no
It came at a heavy price
My Son, the jewel of heaven
Was the immeasurable sacrifice
My friend you could never afford
This wine that was painfully pressed
But that’s ok – you don’t have to!
You’re our chosen, treasured guest!
Sit and take – all you need
Everything is here
A gracious, abundant feast
One only a King could prepare
I know your mind is running
With lists of things to do
It pleases me you’re faithful
But you need to eat too.
Come, stay a while with me
Leave all that aside
Take your time. Drink your fill.
I look after what is mine.
