05 Feb Living in the Flesh
“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.”
Romans 8:5 (NIV)
We often put our confidence in our flesh, forgetting that it’s almost too easy for earthly things that bring us this sense of confidence, to be taken away. That’s when we get shaken.
Last year was my first operation-free year, in a long time. Thank you Jesus!
A few years back I had just completed my yoga-teacher training. I was probably in the best physical shape of my life. Then I found a lump under my arm and had to have a biopsy. I was one of the lucky ones and was found to be cancer-free.
I found the recovery to be hard, especially mentally. I have always battled with balance, and not being able to bounce from the hospital bed back into a headstand, stopped me in my tracks completely. I had put so much confidence in my ability to do this form of physical exercise, so when I was no longer able to, I found myself asking, “now what?”
That ability was taken away. That’s the lesson though, isn’t it? I was living for my flesh, so my world was turned upside down because I hadn’t built it on Him. Today, I encourage you to pray and ask God to reveal to you where you might be living for your flesh or to guide you in helping someone who is.
