Persistence

Humans are likely to get discouraged when it seems as though their efforts aren’t yielding results. Therefore, God’s strength is needed to stand confidently. It may sound ridiculous attempting to accomplish a single goal countless times without a positive output. However, history has revealed remarkable achievement accomplished based on persistence. Indeed, those who ever raised above the average lifestyle kept inputting their best, refusing to give in until they had achieved what they hoped for.

The challenges of life have never been pleasant for anyone. Hence, to rise above the storm of life without losing your enthusiasm you need persistence. Beloved, persistence is one of the attributes of being a Christian. In the Christiandom, our answered prayers might tarry for some time before getting to us. But, if we refuse to faint in our heart though it tarries it will surely come.

Persistence implies, we don’t relent in asking, hoping, praying and trusting God until His plans for us are accomplished, even when our problems give us hundreds of reasons to give up. The plans of God are above our human way of reasoning. Hence, we must strengthen our persistence with God’s promises from His word.

Jesus having taught his disciples about persistence, went further in saying: “So, I say to you, Ask and keep on asking, and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks and keeps on asking receives; and he who seeks and keeps on seeking finds; and to him who knocks and keeps on knocking, the door shall be opened.” –Luke 11:9-10. Therefore, the primary focus is beyond asking, rather we need to keep on asking. It’s based on the persistence we receive from the Father.

Jesus also told a parable about a judge who was named unjust. In essence, he had no regards for God or the opinion of humans. This judge was placed in the position to avenge for a widow from her enemies. But he showed less attention to her case. However, something was fascinating about that widow.

In the real human sense, our Instincts always suggest that we give up when we find ourselves in such a scenario. Despite the judge’s hardened heart, this widow refused to give in. She kept on pleading with the judge every new day.

It got to a point when the judge was marvelled by her persistence to the extent he was left with no other opinions rather granting her request. He got fed up by her consistent disturbance. Furthermore, he said an astonishing statement to himself; And will not God bring justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” – Luke 18:1-8. The one question left unanswered; will God still find faith in us when he comes? It’s about time we become determined not to give in because God is counting on us.

Therefore, we as Christian need to emulate the persistence character of the widow. Oftentimes, the presence of challenges in our lives comes to test how persistence our faith is in God.

We’re made to stand strong and keep our faith alive just as Jesus urges us to do. Keep seeking, asking, and knocking on heaven’s gate with enthusiasm and expectation, because your answers and results are near. Rejoice in the Lord for the great things God is set to do in your life this season.

The virtue of persistence must be included in our daily prayers, we need the enabling grace of God to build this valuable virtue. In essence, persistence keeps our faith level in a revival mood, helping us please the Lord, for it’s impossible to please the Lord without faith.
