02 Jun Community Reading Plan: Psalms
A few weeks ago, I finally took the plunge and launched our new Facebook Group called, Connecting Christian Women. Again, like much of what I do through this platform, I cautiously approached it with lots of prayer because I was so afraid of jumping in too soon and launching yet another part of this platform, but not having what it takes to nurture and grow the community the way that God has entrusted me to.
The idea for our new group is to build a more intimate relationship among our community so instead of just posting content after content on our social pages, we now have the opportunity to have an honest 2-way conversation with each other. In a time where social media is filled with noise, I feel like we really have to be intentional about building a strong community of Christian women and my hope is that in time, each one of you will see our Facebook group as a safe space to be vulnerable and get down to the nitty-gritty of what it means to be a Christian.
Something that I am particularly passionate about is that although I have my own story and message to share, this platform isn’t just for me, and I never want it to become a singular narrative which is why I have encouraged contributors to join our team right from the start. If you go right back to my first post (and probably even on the About Us page) you will see that this platform has always been built around the basis that I want any woman to discover our page and find at least one story that she relates to. And truth be told, I can’t be that for every single woman out there – but if each one of us shares just a little more of our hearts, it is likely we’ll meet others on a similar journey who will find encouragement in you and perhaps even motivate and inspire you.
I want the group to become a lively spot for us to have an intimate conversation, whether that’s sharing our day-to-day lives, or perhaps opening up and sharing something you’re wrestling with in your faith – let’s discuss it, dive in and really connect over our thoughts, experiences and feelings. We can learn so much from one another if just given the right place to do it.
One of the first things I want to do is encourage our community to spend more time in the Bible, because even I am guilty of not spending enough time reading His word, so I started by asking our group what book of the bible you’d like to read first and everyone voted for Psalms – which happens to be one of my favourite books of the Bible.
I have gone ahead and created a 9-week reading plan (it’s free to download) for our community to follow. Each week, I will share the chapters of the week in the group, and encourage our group to comment with what each of us took from their reading that week. I will also be sharing resources that I use, commentaries and some useful guides to help with Bible Studies, with the hope of enriching your own devotional time.
I hope you’ll join us in our first-ever virtual Bible Study – I know it’s not conventional, but seriously, it’s 2020 and nothing is!
